The first step in diagnosing and treating neurological, musculoskeletal, and other women’s healthcare issues is utilizing radiological imaging. At Starling Diagnostics, we provide a wide range of advanced diagnostic services designed to provide the most comprehensive analysis, enabling our patients to receive the treatment they need in the most timely and effective manner.
Depending on the type and severity of your condition, here are the state-of-the-art women’s imaging services and interventions we offer:
3T MRI
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a radiation-free procedure that uses radio waves and a powerful magnet to render pictures of areas in your body in minute detail. A 3T (or 3 Tesla) MRI can scan the brain, spine, soft tissue, and even inside bones and blood vessels to diagnose difficult-to-see abnormalities, such as:
- Breast cancer
- Osteoporosis
- Infections
- Lung disease
- Orthopedic diseases and injuries
- Neurological problems
- Chest or abdominal pain
- Heart disease and other vascular issues
CT Scan
This painless imaging procedure uses low-dose X-rays taken from various angles to produce detailed, cross-sectional images of organs and tissues to pinpoint the source of pain, injury, or abnormality. The advantage of a CT scan is that it provides your physician with an unobstructed view of organs and structures not clearly visible through conventional X-rays. Often, a CT scan is the preferred means of diagnosing cancers of the liver, lungs, and pancreas. It is also useful for obtaining vivid images of the abdomen, blood vessels, bones, the brain, lungs, the pelvis, and soft tissues.
3D Mammogram
Also known as breast tomosynthesis, a 3D mammogram combines multiple breast X-rays to create a more revealing, three-dimensional image of the breast than a traditional mammogram. It is a clearer, more detailed analysis of dense breast tissue, and, therefore, more effective than a traditional 2D mammograms in detecting breast cancer. 3D mammogram also minimizes radiation exposure.
DEXA Bone Density Scan
A DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) bone density scanner is the gold standard in diagnosing osteoporosis, a condition prevalent among women in which the bones become weak, porous, and brittle. A DEXA bone density scanner uses an extremely low dose of ionizing radiation to produce images that can help doctors assess your risk for developing osteoporosis. It can also scan your entire body to identify signs of low bone mass requiring medical intervention. Osteoporosis makes you susceptible to a variety of diseases and conditions, including:
- Autoimmune disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus, or ankylosing spondylitis
- Blood and bone marrow disorders
- Breast or prostate cancer
- Endocrine or hormonal disorders
- Fractures
- Hematologic disorders, such as leukemia, lymphoma, or sickle cell disease
Ultrasound
Ultrasound involves the transmission of sound waves into your body that travels until they reach a boundary between different types of tissue, bone, or fluid and then bounce back, producing an image. A conventional ultrasound renders an image displayed in thin, flat sections, while 3D ultrasounds provide a more detailed view of internal organs. Although often associated with obstetric care, ultrasound is also used for such feminine medical conditions as:
- Blocked arteries
- Tumors and growths
- Vascular problems
- Problems in the gallbladder, kidneys, liver, and pancreas
Digital X-Ray
Whereas conventional X-rays are helpful in providing images of fractures, tumors, and other internal conditions or abnormalities, digital X-rays are a more advanced form of radiography for diagnosis. It uses special X-ray-sensitive plates to directly capture data during a patient examination and immediately transfer it to a computer system that produces images. Another advantage of a digital X-ray for patients is that it involves less radiation than a conventional X-ray.
