Planning Your Appointment
What to Expect During Your Visit
At Starling Health, we strive to make every visit as comfortable and efficient as possible. Here is exactly what happens — from what to pack the night before to what arrives in your patient portal afterwards.
Before You Come In
What to Bring
Having these ready keeps your check-in short and helps your provider give you the best possible care. If you are missing something, come anyway — our staff will help you sort it out.
Photo ID and insurance card
Bring both to every visit — the front desk needs them to check you in. If your insurance changed recently, bring the newest card.
A list of your current medications
Include the dose and how often you take each one. Vitamins and over-the-counter medicines count too.
Your referral or prescription
If you are coming in for imaging, bring the order or prescription from the doctor who sent you.
Prior records or imaging CDs
If you have had a scan or test somewhere else, bring the CD or the report so your provider can compare.
Your new patient forms
New patient forms are available online or in our office. Filling them out ahead of time saves you time at the front desk.
A way to pay your co-pay
Co-pays are collected at the time of service. We accept credit cards and HSA/FSA cards.
Call (718) 319-1610 before your appointment, or read our insurance information.
Your Visit, Step by Step
From the Front Door to Check-Out
Most visits follow the same simple path. Your provider will tell you if anything about your appointment works differently.
Arrive 15 minutes early
Give yourself 15 minutes before your appointment time for registration. If you are running late, call us at (718) 319-1610 so we can let your care team know.
Check in at the front desk
Our front desk staff will confirm your information, check your photo ID and insurance card, and collect any co-pay.
Vitals and a quick history
A medical assistant will take your vitals and review your medical history, your medications, and the reason for your visit.
Time with your provider
Your physician will conduct a thorough examination, answer your questions, and talk through next steps with you.
Imaging or testing, often the same day
Any needed imaging or testing can often be done on the same visit, so you may not need to make a second trip.
Check out and next steps
Before you leave, you will receive a visit summary and follow-up instructions, along with any orders or prescriptions you need.
Afterwards
What Happens After Your Visit
Your care does not stop when you walk out the door. Here is how you stay connected to your results and your care team.
Your visit summary
You will receive a visit summary and follow-up instructions at the end of your appointment. Visit summaries and care plans are also available in the patient portal.
Test and imaging results
Most imaging studies are interpreted within 24–48 hours. Urgent findings are called to your ordering physician the same day, and you will get a copy through the patient portal.
Prescriptions and refills
Request refills through the patient portal or by calling (718) 319-1610. Please allow 24–48 business hours for refill requests.
Questions after you get home
Message your care team securely through the patient portal, or call the office at (718) 319-1610. We are happy to walk through anything that was not clear.
You can start a request online or by phone — see Request Your Medical Records.
